Accommodation

Venice is particularly attractive and the situation concerning hotel accommodation is always very tight. Very exceptionally it has been possible to reserve a number of rooms for the Workshop participants at reduced rates at the Hotel Europa  Regina - San Marco 2159, Venice, a top class comfortable Hotel on the Grand Canal, at a walking distance (about 5 minutes) from Piazza San Marco and close to the “IstitutoVeneto di Scienze, Lettereed Arti”.

We apologize if it would turn out to be impossible to satisfy all applications.  Those wishing to stay at the Hotel Europa Regina are urged to reserve their accommodation.

Transportation

For those arriving by plane at Marco Polo Airport which is located about 13 km from Venice the easiest way to reach Venice is by sea.

ALILAGUNA is a public water taxi company which offers a service (the Lancione) that goes from the airport passing by Murano island and the Lido to “Calle Vallaresso", near Piazza San Marco, which is at a walking distance from the Hotel Europa Regina and from the “Istituto Veneto di Scienze,Lettere ed Arti”. The crossing takes abt. 1 hour 10 minutes. The Lancione connects more or less with all flights. The ticket for this boat (Lancione) costs Euros 10,00 and can be purchased at the ALILAGUNA taxi stand at the end of the arrival hall (opening hours: from 8 am to 12 pm). The timetable is: departure from the Airport to Venice (Calle Vallaresso) every hour at 0.10 minutes starting from 6.10 am to 00.10 am.; departure from Venice (Calle Vallaresso) to Airport: at 4.35 am, at 5.35 am and at every hour at 0.50 minutes starting from 6.50 am to 10.50 pm.

You can also take a private water taxi from the airport directly to your final destination (the cost is abt. Euros 80,00) or you can take a land taxi to Piazzale Roma (the cost is abt. Euros 27,00) and from there catch a public boat (Vaporetto) to the stop closest to your final destination (see details in the next paragraph).

For those arriving by train at the Railway Station or by car at the parking garage at Piazzale Roma there are several possibilities. To go directly to the “IstitutoVeneto di Scienze, Lettereed Arti” one can take the Vaporetto, Line 1 or Line 82 (every 10 minutes from 7:00 until 21:00; every 20/30 minutes afterwards) to the stop Accademia.  From there one has to cross the “Ponte dell'Accademia” and walk more or less directly to Campo S. Stefano. To go to the Hotel Europa Regina, on the other hand, one can also take the Vaporetto, Line 1 or Line 82, to the stop Calle Vallaresso, near Piazza San Marco.  The Hotel is a five minute walk, more or less to the left, over “Ponte San Moisč”.

You can also take a private water taxi from the Railway Station to your final destination (the cost is abt. Euros 45,00).
